Cuevas de San Marcos, Malaga, Andalucia

Cuevas de San Marcos is a small friendly "pueblo blanco” located on the edge of the Subbetica National Park and a longish walk or very short drive to the Iznajar Lake (sometimes referred to by UK TV presenters for no discernable reason whatsoever as the "Lake of Andalucia” as if there weren’t any others!).

So the setting is attractive but is it isolated? Not at all. As the road system of Andalucia continues to improve access to the Costa, the airports at Malaga and Granada and the comprehensive local shopping centres of Antequera and Lucena becomes easier. When the new Cordoba to Malaga airport is completed Malaga airport will be less than 45 minutes away!

Talking about how you can get to other places probably isn’t the best way to sing a village’s praises! Cuevas is however a full service pueblo with shops, daily produce market, bars, restaurants, hotels, banks and of course schools and discos (happily thoughtfully located on the outskirts). And talking of outskirts, if you come in on either road from the Antequera – Cordoba highway don’t let first impressions put you off! At first sight the village looks a bit of a dump but I reckon that is a clever plot to ensure that the uninitiated drive straight past, leaving the attractive olf heart of the pueblo undisturbed!

The biggest asset of Cuevas san Marcos however is the people. They are very welcoming and the large British community in the town gets on well with their neighbours. You are therefore assured of a warm and friendly welcome.

To find out more, get in touch or arrange a visit. We always have the best seletion of houses for sale in the pueblo!

Cuevas San Marcos

I am not sure which house you are talking about so can I make some general comments? If you need a mortgage the normal maximum loan will be 70% of the purchase price. That means you need a total deposit of 30% + costs. For more info see the mortgage info page on the site. http://www.tickle-international-property.com/article/493/ To reserve any house you place a holding deposit, usually between 2 - 6,000 Euros with the balance of the formal 10% deposit following qithin a couple of weeks. For full details see our page on Spanish conveyancing http://www.tickle-international-property.com/article/1302/

You spoilt it!

When you said "large British community in the town", you put me off!

You Spoil It

The presence of a British community should not put you off. I know that there some shameful dead beats and riff raff on the coast but in many inland areas the Brits are the sort of people you would want for neighbours. Many of the people we know in Cuevas San Marcos are the sort that gave our country a good name in the past. Polite, helpful and welcoming to new arrivals. They also get on well with the local Spanish community with a high degree of co operation and integration. Good neighbours in other words! Moving to a new life in a new country can frequently be difficult with many challenges. Having people about to answer questions and give advice and assistance should be a major advantage.

Holidaying in Spain next week and had hoped you had an office in Alhaurin el Grande (address seems to be a PO box)How do people arrange to see properties?

Viewing

Hi, phone or e-mail me for an appointment. The more notice the better as many owners go out to work or are non resident so we can't guarantee access if you ust turn up. As for the address, I lived in the campo near Alhaurin for nearly 15 years and the mail man never called! A PO box was the only alternative. Quite a common occurance in country areas.
