Description

We don’t know much about the history of the house. Our lawyer found out that it is likely to have been built some 60-70 years ago as a farm house. During the years some changes have been made and when we bought it December 2003 it had 3 small rooms, 1 large room and a bathroom on the ground floor and a large room on the first floor. Besides, there was a so-called rural kitchen, separated from the rest of the rooms. In front of the house, towards south, there was a terrace. Everything was shabby and worn, cats had lived there for a couple of years, it smelled awful and the northern wall was heavily damaged by humidity.

We, just being the two of us, decided to make some changes, so we made the 3 little rooms into one big hall-like room (approx. 45-50 squaremetres) with visible wooden beams and more than 4 meters to the top of the ceiling. We use that as a combined kitchen and living room. The two large rooms, one on top of the other, and each approx. 15-20 squaremetres we use for bedrooms. The bathroom, that used to be the finest room in the house, could still need some reform. It has a w.c., a bidet, a shower and a wash-hand basin. The former rural kitchen is now used to store things of all kinds.

I would guess that the area of the entire house is approx. 100 squaremetres, maybe more maybe less, but we don’t have any exact drawings. And then comes the terrace which is 15 meters long and from 1½ to 2 meters wide. Directly towards the south, with a stunning view to the olive fields and – on clear days – the peaks of Sierra Nevada. There is no land to the house, though.

When we made the reform a complete new drainage along the northern wall was established (you can still see it in the street). This unfortunately seems not to be quite enough, as there are some spots of humidity indoors. The local people say that this is nothing special and that you just give it a layer of paint each year – but we don’t like it. A complete new electric installation was made, and the floor was renewed and electrical floor heating was established in the ground floor. There are thermostats in the kitchen area and in the bedroom and it works very well.

The floor and the coating of the walls was renewed – and the ceiling was opened so that you now have the wooden beams in the entire hall-room. It’s very impressing, and the local builders named it “The Cathedral”.

The southern facade we have changed completely. Instead of small windows we now have two douple doors, besides the main entrance, and that gives a lot of view and a lot of light. I think that I can say, that you will not find many – if any – houses with this surprising hall-room.

Also the terrace has been totally restored with new tiles.

The house is fully equipped with electricity and water, propane gas for the hot water and the kitchen. Besides, the kitchen has a brand new oven, including micro wave, vapour exortion and a big refrigerator with freezer. There also is a new TV antenna, and cables for telephone have been prepared. Cellular phone coverage is perfect.

The house is sold fully furnished. It has never been rented out so the furniture is in good condition.

Why do we want to sell this wonderful house? Not for economical reasons because the costs in respect of water, electricity and taxes are extremely low, I would say that they do not exceed 500 Euros a year in total. Why then? Because our life here in Denmark has changed in unexpected ways so that we don’t have the same possibility to use our house in the way that we had looked forward to.
